ASHTANGA: PRIMARY SERIES
5-WEEK COURSE WITH AVRIL BURBIDGE
The Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system developed by K Pattabhi Jois is rooted in an ancient South Indian lineage and based on the methods learnt from his guru and teacher Krishnamacharya.
Ashtanga combines a powerful flow of deeply purifying physical challenge with the essence of a moving meditation – its Primary Series often referred to as the “healing series” for its colourful tapestry of postures designed to realign, rebalance and cleanse at every level of our being.
Comprising a set series of specific asana, familiarisation with the next sequenced pose helps cultivate greater inner focus as the standardised practice becomes a mirror for our ever-fluctuating body, mind and emotions – allowing us to better know ourselves and ultimately awaken to our true nature.
Over a 5-week course we will progressively build the Ashtanga Primary Series in a nurturing workshop environment – culminating with a 2-hour guided practice of the full series in Week 5. Exploring, understanding and optimising the style, sequence and specific postures, you will be empowered with all the tools you need to move through the Primary Series anytime, anywhere.
A wide range of beginner modifications and advanced variations will allow students of all levels to build the solid foundations of your own personal Ashtanga practice together!
Avril’s international Ashtanga and Vinyasa training has been shaped with a balanced fusion of authentic Eastern teachings from India, and more modern Western approaches from Australia, London and New York.
Avril’s personalised, nurturing and supportive approach is underpinned by 20 years of strong dedicated Ashtanga self-practice and exposure to a huge variety of teachers in led Ashtanga class environments, along with widespread experience across a multitude of Yoga styles including Kundalini, Yin, Restorative, Hatha, Mindfulness, Meditation and Yoga Therapy.
MOVE DEEPER INTO YOUR PRACTICE
Times: Sundays 8am – 9:30am for 5 consecutive weeks
(final week 7:30am – 9:30am for a full 2-hour guided practice of the entire Ashtanga Primary Series)
