Our final weekend is a 3-day training that empowers you to do more than just guide postures, but to master the all-important art of intelligently crafting experiences that are cohesive, intentional and emotionally resonant by telling a story through your sequences.

Part II – Yin Sequencing (25 hours)

Friday 28 November – Sunday 30 November 2024

Contact Hours: 21 (Friday evening 4pm – 7pm; Saturday & Sunday 9:30am – 6:30pm)

Non-Contact hours: 4 (included online reading and viewing material)

Daily Schedule

Friday evening:

Yin Cueing, Pacing and Body Language

Discover how to shape the feel of your class by choosing not only the right postures, but the right language, tone and pacing to guide your students through them.

Explore how your presence, gestures, and cues can create a story arc – from beginning to end – so your class has flow, emotional impact and depth.

You’ll learn through:

    • Led Yin practice with integrated storytelling
    • Practical breakdowns of cueing and pacing
    • Small group exercises to practice and refine your teaching voice

Saturday:

Playing with the Elements

Yin Yoga can be deeply grounding, but it can also be light, spacious or fiery. By adjusting the timing of your cues and the rhythm of your postures, you can shape an elemental arc – evoking water, fire, earth or air in your class.

You’ll also explore the power of adding mudras, acupressure, and meditation to shift energy and mood.

Expect a mix of:

    • Element-themed Yin classes
    • Creative sequencing labs
    • Feedback sessions to build confidence and creativity

Sunday:

Playing with the Archetypes

Bring your sequences to life with characters and symbols from yogic and Taoist mythology. Whether it’s the wisdom of the elephant, the stealth of the tiger or the mystery of the dragon – these archetypes can offer students powerful metaphors for inner exploration.

Learn how to thread these figures into your class in ways that feel authentic and enriching, not theatrical.

On this final day, you’ll:

    • Practice archetype-inspired sequences
    • Build your own mythologically themed class
    • Receive feedback to strengthen your storytelling voice

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I required to do a teacher training in order to teach Yin?

Legally, you are not required to attend a Yin Teacher Training in order to lead Yin Yoga classes.

So, why should I attend a training?

The Yin method asks students to step into a more intimate relationship with the postures of yoga. Yin students get to adapt the postures to suit their own unique needs. And you get to teach them how to do this mindfully and skillfully! So, you’ll need ways to describe what a student is trying to feel through a stretch and how to observe and respond to sensations as they arise. In order to do this effectively, you’ll need to draw on a deeper understanding of anatomy than most 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Trainings offer. You’ll also need some creative and effective ways to use props to inspire your students to find the variations and adaptation that are right for them. Once you learn the postures of Yin Yoga, then it’s time to sequence them so that your students can really feel the benefits!

Okay, I’m ready to attend a training.  Why should I do Jennifer’s training?

Jennifer is a Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 and Certified Continuing Education Provider with over 20 years of teaching experience in the U.S. and Australia. So, your training hours are recognized by both Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia as Continuing Education Credits. She has been at the forefront of Yin Yoga in Australia, teaching Melbourne’s first Yin classes and writing and facilitating Yin Teacher Trainings delivered across Australia and internationally. Jennifer loves to learn and has studied with innovators and educators including Paul Grilley, Tom Myers, Gil Hedley, Sarah Powers, Leslie Kaminoff, and MovNat to name a few.  Before becoming a yoga teacher, she spent a decade writing and producing documentary films and this time immersed in storytelling helps her structure her trainings and communicate ideas with clarity and conviction. In addition, Jennifer has co-written and facilitated multiple YA certified 200 Hour Teacher Trainings and co-created Anatomy for Yoga teacher trainings.

I’m a yoga student who just wants to understand more about Yin Yoga.  Can I attend a training?

Yes. This training will give you the tools you need to practice safely and effectively at home.

I’ve done some Yin training before with another instructor. Will I still benefit from this course?

Yes. Jennifer’s trainings offer a more in-depth look at the physical and energetic anatomy, and rich philosophies that inform the Yin practice, involve plenty of practical teaching and embodied movement play, while her approach to Yin postures, sequences and creative use of props has many unique elements.

I did a Yin training with Jennifer a few years ago.  Should I do another one?

Jennifer continually attends trainings with leaders in the field of fascia such as Tom Myers and Gil Hedley and studies Chakras, Meridians, and Yoga philosophy with Paul Grilley. Her understanding of movement is always evolving through her own exploration which includes Yin Yoga, Flow Yoga, Primal Movement, and Olympic Lifting. Jennifer’s trainings are always evolving to reflect new ideas and experiences. No training is ever quite the same!

Are there any prerequisites for this course?

You will get the most out of this course if you have been practicing Yin Yoga consistently. However, if you don’t have previous Yin experience but are really keen to learn, exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis.

When I complete the course, do I earn a certificate?

Yes. As Jennifer is a certified Continuing Education Provider, you will earn a Certificate of Completion. These hours will fulfil continuing education requirements.

What if I cannot attend the whole course?

Any Teacher Training is a commitment whether you are doing it for personal development or to develop new skills as a Yoga teacher. Before you sign up for the course, ask yourself if you are really ready and able to make the commitment. In order for you to get the most out of your experience, we expect you to be present for the entire course. If you cannot attend a portion of the course due to unexpected circumstances, you will need to make up those hours by attending classes with Jennifer at your own expense. If you miss multiple sessions, Jennifer won’t be able to issue you a Certificate of Completion.

“Jen’s Yin course was outstanding. It has given me not only a better appreciation of the practice, but the skill set and confidence to create intelligent, creative sequencing that supports the body. Jen’s guidance on the use of postures, props and modifications has also enabled me to better suit the practice to every individual. Jen has also had a great influence on the way I now teach Yin. I highly recommend Jen’s course for anyone interested in either teaching or practicing Yin Yoga.”

– Ryan Mannix

“When I looked to increase my own personal knowledge of Yin Yoga, there was no better choice than Yin Yoga teacher training with Jennifer. Her curiosity and ability to translate, for all audiences, the incredible research she has completed into human movement (at a cellular level) is remarkable.  If you have the chance to train with this wonderful lady, don’t pass by the opportunity.”

– Mary Willis

“Brilliant delivery Jennifer. You’ve done the hard work. I would train with you again for sure. One of the best teachers I’ve come across offering contemporary knowledge infused with ancient wisdom.”
