LIVING WITHOUT RESISTANCE

– YOGA PHILOSOPHY WITH EMMA PALMER

Every time we are about to embark on a new creative project or ready to embrace change, a degree of resistance tends to arise within us. Perhaps the most challenging aspect of this resistance is determining whether it is legitimately warning us “wrong way go back”, or is actually a fear-based response that illustrates to us “this is really important, so keep going”. It is often our greatest challenges that generate the strongest resistance, yet ultimately invite us to fully embrace the very teaching life is trying to gift us for our personal and spiritual evolution.

Part of this resistance is a fear of growing into our fullest potential, as we have become attached to the ways of being we are now ready to outgrow. This attachment is referred to as Dveṣa, and the refusal to embrace the flow of inevitable change creates much Duḥkha, or suffering, and creates a block that is enormously challenging to surpass until we reach the point where we are given no choice but to surrender. When we are entrenched in resistance we create a prison that inhibits us from living fully, freely and as an open channel for life’s riches to reach us.

It is our own resistance to what “is” and our attachment to how we would prefer things be, that cause us most distress – creating an existence we are fearful of, rather than a life that dances with a dynamic flow for us to thrive. When we realise this and learn to move through the resistance, we begin to see how universal assistance is forever supporting us to translate potential into being; to convert dreams into reality.

In the next instalment of our Living Yoga Philosophy Series, Emma will explore how we can choose to meet resistance in a new way – with the courage to manifest our greatest life through the evolution of our becoming. To acknowledge the rich teachings of resistance and not be imprisoned by them. To recognise there is another way of decoding life’s signposts and finally give in to the whispers that are gently guiding each of us toward a fully awakened state of being.
