THE FREEDOM OF FORGIVENESS

– A YOGA INTENSIVE WITH EMMA PALMER

When we hold onto the past with a blameful mind, we place ourselves in a prison and, without knowing, give someone else the key. The ancient teachings, particularly of the Bhagavad Gita, provide us with much insight into the practices of forgiveness, known in Sanskrit as Kṣānti, as an essential tool with the power to liberate us from a past that we come to accept we cannot change.

In the law of physics, energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it can change form. This transformation is at the heart of working through the layers to reach the sacred place where we are able to forgive self, circumstance and others. The gift of forgiveness comes when we the let go of the ways we thought life would unfold and embrace the path of truly setting ourselves free.

“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that prisoner was you.” – Lewis B. Smedes

Forgiveness is a powerful practice at the root of spiritual freedom, yet why we do hold on so tightly to the past and allow its tendrils to weave their way into our present? We do not need to forgive for any other reason than to live with a free heart and experience a deep inner peace, as without forgiveness those tendrils will continue to suffocate us until we are ready to fully release ourselves from their grip.

No matter how painful, when we have the courage and openness to face even the idea of forgiveness, what is needed to be forgiven begins to morph, soften and the journey of healing can begin. We are only ever in control of ourselves and this is where the concentration of our energy must be placed.

“The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.” – Steve Maraboli

In our July Yoga Intensive with Emma Palmer we continue to walk the sacred path of Awakening by allowing ourselves to give and receive the gifts of forgiveness. Working with the sacred Yogic teachings of Kṣānti and practices that build a strong subtle energy body, together we will map our way out of the centre of the maze and into the light of forgiveness.

Through a powerful Āsana practice, along with Kriyā, Prāṇāyāma, Mudrā, Dhyāna (meditation), devotional chanting of Mantra and an immersive Śavāsana of sound healing, you will be shown the door to set yourself free, but you alone have the key. The question is, what are you holding onto and are you ready to release it?
